Retailers Discount Products as Customers Continue to Shop More Online

Retailers like JC Penney, Macy’s, and Dillard’s have had declining sales for a while now. The companies have done things like close stores, cut jobs, and more to increase sale and profits. These companies have also been discounting quite a lot of their products to either increase sale or make customers shop at their stores but that has also made brands stop working with them.

Retailers like JC Penney, Macy’s, and Dillard’s have had declining sales since 2015. Sales where declining before that but 2015 is when sales and profits started declining quite a lot for those brands. These companies have done things like close stores and cut jobs to increase sales and profits. Macy’s has closed quite a lot of stores and so has JC Penney, although sales haven’t declined as much at those companies as they have at Sears where the company filed for bankruptcy.

These retailers have also been discounting quite a lot of they’re products to either increase sales or make customers shop at their stores. The companies, of course, discount products for the holidays season from Thanksgiving week to New Years as well as on other holidays, but they seem to be having discounts pretty much every week. Some brands are even making stores into discount stores.

There is a Dillard’s at a shopping center that my husband and I go to when we go shopping on the weekends and that store is liquidating its inventory. The store is having a sale where you can get up to 65% pretty much everything and you can get an extra 30% off some products. As for products that aren’t being discounted, they seem to be being shipped to another store. All of the products seem to have been removed from the stores fragrance and beauty sections. There’s quite a lot of of clothing that has been removed as well. My husband and I went shopping a couple of weeks ago and a sales associate said the store was being made into a discount location.

Other retailers in the shopping center don’t seem to have many customers shopping at their stores. No one seems to be shopping at JC Penney when we go shopping on the weekend except during the holidays. The store does have some discounts where clothing is usually pretty cheap, however, home decor, cookware, dinnerware, silverware, small kitchen appliances, mattresses, bedding and pretty much anything like that is pretty expensive even after having been discounted. There is a Kohl’s at the shopping center as well which no seems to be shopping at either. They have discounts but their products are still quite expensive.

Customers shop more online because they’re get more deals. Many brands have online only deals and have them more often that in stores. They also offer quite a lot of products and sizes online only. Customers also shop more at stores like Zara, H&M, and Forever 21 because their products are cheaper. You can also get more discounts for small kitchen appliances on websites like eBay. Customers want good products for cheap prices and they can get more of that online.

Some brands have stopped offering so many discounts and selling products at full price instead to be more like luxury brands. For example, Hermès doesn’t have sale or discounts. The brand sales everything at full price until it’s gone. Chanel and Louis Vuitton don’t do this either as well as many other luxury brands. Some brands have stopped selling products at stores like JC Penney, Macy’s, and Dillard’s because they discount products too much.

These companies should instead offer better products at good prices instead of offering mall products at expensive prices. Many products at these stores originally retail for well over $100. Last year my husband and I bought decorative towel from JC Penney and the set cost us almost $60 with the hand towel retailing for $12. Luckily, we bought it with a gift card. Most people don’t want to pay those prices which is why these stores are discounting these products, however, they are still quite expensive.

My husband and I saw a bedding set at JC Penney that cost over $100 after already having been discounted. The original price was over $300. That is too expensive for a bedding sent. At least for one with mall product quality. $100 is even expensive. I can get one of similar quality online for $40.

These companies are discounting products and prices are pretty good on some products but they should instead sell better quality products at good prices. Either that or simply lower original prices.
