This makes the vegetable platter with dip for children tasty and pretty to look at at the same time

Convincing children to eat vegetables is often a major challenge. And especially at parties such as birthdays, for example, the little ones prefer “cooler” food such as pizza, hamburgers, french fries and the like. There is nothing wrong with that, because after all, the children should have fun and be completely satisfied. You can make an exception here. However, if you still value something healthy on the buffet and want to serve vegetables in addition to fruit, a vegetable platter with dip is a great idea.

Vegetable platter with dip – recipe with hummus designed as a lion

Vegetable platter with dip made from hummus arranged like a lion with vegetables

If you are looking for quick dips, this is a good option, as you can use ready-made hummus from the supermarket for it. Of course, you can also make the hummus yourself and make the complete vegetable platter with dip for children. The shape of the lion will appeal to the little bullies in particular.

  • 6 large carrots
  • 2 yellow peppers
  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 small yam bean
  • 280 g of hummus
  • 3 large black olives
  • 8 fresh leaves of chives

Instructions for a vegetable platter with a dip in the shape of a lion

Wash and peel the carrots and cut them into thin sticks with a pointed end. Repeat the same thing with the yellow bell pepper and with the yam bean, but set a larger piece aside for the lion’s face. Place a bowl in the middle of a large plate and fill it with the hummus (or put the hummus and its packaging on the plate).

Vegetable platter with dip - peppers, carrots, chives and yam beans

Spread the vegetable sticks around them in about three layers, starting with the longer ones and arranging the short yam bean sticks last. Cut a triangular or heart-shaped piece from the red pepper for the nose. First cut two slices from the rest of the yam bean and then use a cookie cutter to cut two circles of the same size and from the olives two rings for the eyes. You will also need two thin strips from an olive for the snapdragon.

You then arrange all these elements on the vegetable dip for children and finally add the chives for the whiskers. You can shorten this a little if necessary. You can also prepare the vegetable platter with dip for children in advance and keep it covered with cling film in the refrigerator.

Rainbow vegetable platter with dips

Rainbow vegetable platter with a dip made from any vegetable

Instead of serving vegetable sticks with a dip for children, you can also design such skewers. The interesting thing here is the color sequence. Because the colors gradually merge, the vegetable skewers are reminiscent of rainbows and are therefore a delight for children. You can use any vegetable. Only the colors should be correct and look like this:

  • Blue, purple or indigo, such as olives, purple carrots, purple cauliflower, purple peppers
  • green, such as broccoli, green peppers, zucchini, cucumber, sugar snap peas
  • yellow, such as yellow peppers, yellow cherry tomatoes, yellow pumpkin, yellow carrots
  • orange, like orange cherry tomatoes, orange peppers, carrots
  • Red, like any red tomatoes, peppers

Tips and ideas for vegetable platter with dip in rainbow colors

Arrange the vegetables in the same order, trying to use different vegetables for each color. For example, if you have taken yellow peppers, try not to combine them with orange and yellow peppers, but rather with carrots and red tomatoes, for example.

Also serve the skewers with a suitable dip for children. Hummus is suitable as in the example above or one of the variants below.
