Muffins for school enrollment in apple shape

Delicious muffins for school enrollment with red cream, mint leaves and pretzel sticks imitate apples

You have probably already noticed that the red apple is a symbol for school enrollment. But do you actually know why? There were times when a child’s school readiness was tested in interesting ways. The child was offered an apple and a guilder to choose from. When it reached for the apple, it meant that it was not yet ripe for school, because it decided to quickly satisfy its needs. However, if it preferred the guilder, it meant that it was already able to postpone its needs and it could appreciate the value of money. So it was ripe for school.

You can use the apple as a wonderful symbol for school enrollment and accordingly also for the muffins for school enrollment. One of our ideas is made with a red cream so that you basically get cupcakes for school enrollment. This is how the little tarts are made:

Red cream idea

Design muffins for school enrollment like red apples with red frosting and pretzel sticks

First, bake the chocolate muffins in paper cases in the muffin baking tray. Then color the white cream (e.g. vanilla cupcake frosting or butter cream) red and use a pointed bag to spread it over the cooled muffins. You can then sprinkle the cream with red sugar. To complete the apple look, stick a short piece of pretzel stick into the cream and a mint leaf.

The next muffins for school enrollment are not completely round, but rather lightly shaped like apples. To do this, simply place the muffin molds in the baking sheet and insert a small ball made of aluminum foil between the paper molds and the sheet metal. Then make vanilla or chocolate muffins as you like and let them cool. Then prepare any frosting you like, coloring it red with food coloring. Then stick a pretzel stick in the area where the aluminum foil was while you shape the leaves from green jelly candies or mint leaves.

This muffin decoration for school enrollment is also very personable. A copybook is made from fondant and the game pieces from the famous Scrabble game are made from beige. In addition to fondant, you will need:

  • Rolling pin or wooden stick
  • edible glue (e.g. frosting)
  • round cookie cutter, roughly the same diameter as the muffins (or a glass)
  • small square cookie cutter
  • edible colored pencils in light blue, red and black

Cut out circles out of white fondant and design with lines for lined sheets

Roll out the white fondant with the rolling pin and cut out circles. Set them aside so that they get a little firm (the firmer, the easier it is to paint later; overnight would be optimal). With the help of the rolling pin (in the role of a ruler) you can then draw the lines on the circles: horizontally several light blue and on the left one red vertically. Do not press too hard, as the fondant will yield when you press it.

Then cut out the small squares with the cookie cutter, let them dry too and label them with letters and the respective number of points. Glue the squares onto the circles, leaving a little space to be able to label the circles as you like. Then you can put a cream on the muffins for school enrollment and fix the circles on it. complete!

Make edible crayons

Cute wax crayons made of colored fondant - simple craft idea for beginners

Aren’t these crayons really cute? You can easily make them yourself by following the recipe below. They are not only great for designing muffins for school enrollment, but also for other baked goods. All you need is fondant in the desired colors and gel-like frosting, including black. This is how they are made:

Shape fondant into balls and then make rolls

First form about 3.5 cm large balls from the fondant, which you then roll back and forth on your worktop to make small rolls. Then take each roll and use your finger and thumb to shape the tip. With black gel frosting you then create two lines above this point, after which you can distribute the wax crayons on the prepared muffins for wrapping or cupcakes. You can then use colored gel frosting to draw a few more serpentine lines on the tartlets so that it looks like someone has painted them with the crayons.

Muffins for school enrollment – books made from fondant

Colorful books from Fodant to decorate muffins and cupcakes

For these cute books to decorate the muffins for school enrollment you basically only need red and blue fondant as well as white marshmallows and a small rectangular cookie cutter. Optionally, you can also print letters or numbers on the books. Stamps for clay are very suitable for this. Roll out fondant and stamp the numbers or letters anywhere. Then cut out a rectangle based on the stamp. The numbers / letters should ideally be in the upper right corner.

Turn the rectangle over, brush a little water, place a piece of marshmallow on one half of the fondant and fold the other over it. The first book is ready, with which you can then design muffins or cupcakes. You can also combine these books with our other ideas for wax crayons, rulers or erasers.

Fondant pencils

Making pencils out of fondant - instructions for beginners

Use simple fondant to make such cute pencils. In the instructions you can see how these are done step by step. Roll yellow fondant into a ball, then roll it out like a roll. Make a small cone out of skin-colored fondant and attach it to one of the ends of the roll. At the other end you fix a red ball that represents the eraser. Again, hide the transition between the eraser and pencil under a gray strip of fondant. You can use icing to stick on the muffins for school enrollment.

Idea with ruler and eraser

Themed cake decorations for children who are going to school with a ruler and an eraser

Use ready-made sweets to make a great muffin decoration. These rulers made of waffles and erasers made of chewing gum go perfectly with the topic and make the muffins for school enrollment particularly pretty. In addition, the decoration is extremely easy to replicate because you use ready-made products. That’s how it’s done:

Make a ruler for the muffin decoration from waffles and frosting or couverture

  • Vanilla waffles
  • rectangular, pink chewing gum, chewy candies or marshmallows
  • black gel frosting or melted couverture
  • black, edible colored pencil

With the gel frosting or the couverture melted in a water bath, you can add lines to the wafers and set them aside for the time being. Then take the candy for the erasers and label them with the word “eraser”. However, this step is optional. Then distribute the finished decorations on the prepared muffins or cupcakes and they are ready to serve and eat!

Decoration with colorful sprinkles for cupcakes

Bake colorful muffins for school enrollment with sprinkles or cupcakes with frosting

The muffins for school enrollment do not necessarily have to be decorated with certain motifs. A few bright colors are enough to create the right mood for the occasion with the small desserts. And sprinkles are particularly suitable for this purpose. You can use any muffin recipe to decorate the muffins with them. But it is best to choose those with a light batter so that they can also come into their own.

Bake colorful cupcakes with sprinkles in the batter and on the cream

After you’ve made the batter, just stir in the streusel. For 4 muffins for school enrollment, 2 heaping tablespoons of streusel are sufficient. Most of the time the recipes are for 12 muffins, so in this case you’ll add 6 tablespoons. Bake the small cakes as usual. If you want, you can add a cream after it has cooled down and decorate it with sprinkles as well.
