- 2 teaspoons of salt
- 1 1/2 teaspoons of paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1 whole cut chicken
- 100 ml cola soft drink
- 75 g ketchup

- 2 tablespoons of bourbon whiskey
- 1 lemon, sliced

Whisk the cola and the next 4 ingredients (ketchup, sugar, apple cider vinegar and bourbon) in a small bowl. Slowly pour the mixture between the chicken pieces (to avoid the spices coming off the chicken). Then place the lemon wedges on top of the chicken in one layer. Cover and cook on the highest level for 5 hours (or on the lower level for 6 1/2 to 7 1/2 hours).
Remove the chicken from the slow cooker and let cool down a little (about 10 to 15 minutes). Discard the lemon wedges. Then peel, bone and chop the chicken. Skim the fat from the gravy and pour over the chicken. Serve the chicken on sliced corn bread and garnish with pickled peppers and onions and a simple coleslaw.
Tip: To prepare the chopped chicken in advance, let it cool completely and freeze it in an airtight container for up to 3 months.

Men’s dinner: spicy chicken wings
Chicken wings are a great option for men’s group dining. They are prepared quickly and taste wonderful even without a side dish. Here’s an idea on how to cook the chicken wings with a sharp glaze. The ingredients listed provide 4 servings.
- 1 1/2 kg chicken wings, approx. 20-22 wings, rinsed and patted dry
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
For the glaze:
- 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter
- 100 ml honey
- 80-100 g Sriracha sauce (more or less to taste)
- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons of lime juice
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
Mix the chicken wings and garlic powder in a large freezer bag or bowl and season with salt and pepper.
How to prepare the glaze: Heat all the ingredients together in a saucepan on the stove over medium heat and simmer until the sauce thickens slightly.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Line a high-edged baking sheet with foil to make cleaning easier. Place an ovenproof rack on top and spray lightly with non-stick cooking spray.
Bake on the upper middle shelf for 40 minutes. Turn the wings halfway through. Then brush the wings with half of the glaze and switch the oven to grill – grill for about 4-5 minutes or until they are crispy (watch carefully so that they don’t burn). Turn the chicken wings over, brush with the remaining glaze and fry the other side until crispy. complete!
Tip: The recipe also works wonderfully with chicken legs. Note, however, that you need to adjust the cooking time a little.
