Karl Lagerfeld May Resign as Creative Director of Chanel

Hedi Slimane recently resigned as the creative director of Saint Laurent and when he did, there were rumors that he may go to Chanel and replace Karl Lagerfeld. Now, rumors are circulating that Karl Lagerfeld may leave Chanel with the brands next collection being his last collection.

According to an article on The Fashion Law, Karl Lagerfeld may resign as the creative director of Chanel after having been with the brand since 1983. If Lagerfeld resigns, the Chanel Cruise 2016 Collection will be his last collection for the brand. One of Lagerfeld’s friends has also apparently said that Lagerfeld wants to leave the brand.

The Fashion Law, however, doesn’t think Lagerfeld will resign soon as he once said that he does not want to stop working. Lagerfeld is currently not only the creative director of Chanel, but the creative director of Fendi and his own brand. Regardless, people are still saying he may resign and that he may be replaced.

Hedi Slimane resigned as the creative director of Saint Laurent a couple of weeks ago and when he did, everyone was saying he would go to Chanel. Now that there are rumors that Lagerfeld may resign, people are saying that Slimane will replace Lagerfeld again.

A representative for Lagerfeld had no comment.

As I said when Slimane resigned, it will interesting to see the collections from all these brands whose creative directors have resigned and have hired new ones during fashion week this September. Lanvin just replaced Alber Elbaz with Bouchra Jarrar and Anthony Vaccarello just replaced Slimane so there will be some interesting collections next season.

Also, if Lagerfeld does resign, Chanel should to get someone to replace him soon. They shouldn’t do what Dior is doing and have the in house atelier design the next collections. When Raf Simons left Dior, the brand announced that its in house atelier would design the next two collections which included the Dior Haute Couture Spring 2016 collection and the Dior Fall/Winter 16/17 collection. Lanvin also had its in house atelier design the Lanvin Fall/Winter 16/17 collection. Lanvin’s latest collection got negative reviews and no celebrities attended Dior’s haute couture shows as usual.

Regardless, the shows from these brands should still be interesting.
