The hobby room interpreted in a modern way: Apartment with its own skate facility
The resident of this chic apartment is a young man who enjoys spending time with his friends. His hobbies include skateboarding, surfing, playing billiards and boxing. That’s why the InHouse Design Studio team designed a modern hobby room for him, where he can switch off from time to time. The highlight is the skate facility, which is located directly in the apartment. A real paradise for skateboard fans!
The project is a design by creative director Aidan Hart and designer Jenine Bruce. You have chosen a modern, industrial-style facility. The apartment is located in Cape Town, South Africa. The spacious hobby room has been divided into several areas that serve different purposes.
Large-format floor tiles in white are chosen as the floor covering for the hobby room, which harmonize perfectly with the gray-painted walls and the concrete-look ceiling. The curved wooden construction and the wall design with black hexagon tiles create a nice contrast.
Particular attention is paid to the lighting. In order to optimally illuminate the spacious hobby room, the designers use several light sources such as LED strips, LED rail systems, ceiling spotlights and pendant lights above the bar counter.
Individual elements such as pattern carpets, soft furniture covers made of fabric and leather and comfortable bean bags bring comfort to this industrial hobby room. A photo wall with family photos and surfing pictures adds a personal touch.
The highlight in the apartment is undoubtedly the skate track. This impressive complex was not an easy task for the architects. After six weeks, they have carried out their plan in full. Although the construction process took longer than originally planned, the result is a functional skater facility that is certainly the dream of every young person and his friends.
The murals by the young South African artist Jack Fox, which adorn the walls around the skater track, add extra pep to this area. The artist designed the painting without having a concept in advance and completed the impromptu artwork in twelve hours.
