Environmentally friendly restaurant design – “Aan Zee” in Oostvoorne

 by Emma Architects, Netherlands

Created entirely with the natural environment in mind, prepare this modern restaurant design a pleasure from the first sight. For the hungry traveler, this remarkable facility offers much more than good food. Hidden under hilly sand dunes, that modern restaurant design is constructed only with natural materials that are in harmony, aesthetically and practically, with the immediate surroundings. Emma Architects have demonstrated remarkable sensitivity in this design.

Eco-friendly restaurant design with wood architecture

Built in the dunes, the main structure of the modern restaurant design is with a wood clad surface. The sloping roof becomes a dramatic spiral and also serves as a fabulous viewing platform. The soft wood has a nautical look like the hull of an old sailing ship. This similarity is enhanced by the curved aspects, the culmination of which is a funnel structure. The front facade is connected to nature with huge panes of glass opening up to a large covered terrace. Conifers are planted in this region and in the restaurant to consolidate this glorious union. The view of the sea from these zones is spectacular and due to the indoor / outdoor configuration it can be comfortably enjoyed in all seasons.

The interior of this delightful modern restaurant design is something completely different from an architectural point of view. It’s a large, informal, and welcoming environment. No attempt was made to hide the complex wooden structure. This becomes a bold almost industrial feature in the  modern restaurant design. Wood paneling dominates the expansive dining area with an eclectic mix of furniture and materials that gives the restaurant its casual air.

big windows and nice view

A striking element is the lively atmosphere created by the hundreds of colored “harlequin” lights. The effect is solemn, interestingly enough the wiring for the lighting is also left exposed. Indeed the inside from modern restaurant design represents a passing mood, something like a large wooden marquee. It’s not as strange as the idea behind the building of simply being dismantled when its useful life is up. This embodies this together with its function in energy generation and disposal modern restaurant design anything that is good about eco-friendly architecture.
