I wrote an article about Portero Luxury recently and a week or so before that I was browsing their collection of Louis Vuitton Almas. There were your typical patent leather Almas but there were only a few in monogram canvas. The few that they had were old, scratched, and stained but that’s okay because I think the Louis Vuitton Alma looks beautiful that way.
There’s something beautiful about the Alma when it’s very old and has some damage. Now, I wouldn’t carry around an Alma that has a rip in it but scratches, stains, and tanned leather give the bag a nice vintage look. That, coupled with the classic Louis Vuitton monogram make for quite a beautiful handbag.
The Louis Vuitton Alma does a good job at holding it’s shape too. There are some vintage Almas out there that were made years ago that still stand up pretty well and don’t sag. You may see some where the zipper and the top of the bag doesn’t look as great as it could and some of the hardware may be tarnishing but that just makes the bag look even more vintage.
You can get a vintage Alma on Portero for around $400 – $600 but there are other website in which you can get one for under $200 though, I’d probably stick with Portero because I want to make sure I’m getting an authentic bag. Plus, you might get lucky and get one for around that price on Portero. I’ve seen some Almas recently have almost no damage going for under $400.
The Alma is also both a great Winter and Summer bag. I’d like to carry it with a nice black sweater, dark wash jeans, and some black dress shoes during the winter or carry it with a black t-shirt, some white pants, and some Lacoste slip ons. Regardless of what you’re wearing a vintage Louis Vuitton Alma will look great and it can be worn all year long.
I love the way a vintage Louis Vuitton Alma looks. It can have all kinds of stains, scratches, and tarnished hardware and it will look beautiful. It’s also not that expensive compared to the $1,500 you’d pay for a brand new one and it can be worn with almost anything. Vintage Louis Vuitton Almas are beautiful handbags.
