Designer shelf “Sendai Crystal” is reminiscent of tall bamboo sticks
Sendai Crystal is a filigree shelf that fascinates with floating elegance. The piece of furniture is a redesign of Toyo Ito’s famous bookcase, which looks like a sculpture. The original from 2004 is a result of the cooperation between Ito and the Italian furniture brand Horm. Made of glass, solid wood made of alder and walnut, this unites Designer shelf dynamism and calm, flexibility and robustness.
Designer shelf can be integrated in different facilities
The new version of the shelf has a lighter and more open appearance – the 6 shelves are made of glass instead of wood. So that gets Designer shelf a clearer visual lightness and is reminiscent of bamboo sticks that grow up to the sky. 25 wooden segments made of alder and walnut wood, treated with oil, are positioned at different angles and thus create the interesting visible structure. A base made of black lacquered MDF board is equipped with adjustable feet and gives the structure airiness.
Re-design from 2013
The Korean-born architect was recognized in 2013 with the world’s most important award for architecture – the Pritzker Prize. His unique style and design philosophy is reflected in all of his creations. The design of Sendai Crystal captures the essence of Sendai Mediatheque in Japan, which is again a design by Ito.
