One-story house with a flat roof in Brazil clad in teak
The BV house of Jacobsen Arquitetura is a single storey house with flat roof, that stretches across the green meadows of Porto Feliz. Surrounded by golf courses, it was designed as a weekend home for a family from São Paulo. The architects opted for a one-story but sprawling house to take advantage of the landscape in the distance, such as lakes and mountain ranges.

The house is divided into two wings each with a specific function. The most important part includes the social areas of the house and a terrace for relaxing. The maids’ rooms are next to the garage and are connected to the rest of the house by a translucent pergola. The expressive feature is the use of non-orthogonal angles that direct the view outwards, making the rooms less rigid. The three axes that compose the area are marked by stone walls almost a meter thick.

The bedroom block has wooden panels that can incorporate the eaves and porch so that these can be adapted as internal or external areas, always keeping the frame protected from the sun and rain. The teak cladding has a visually appealing warmth. The leisure rooms have a home cinema, children’s playroom, toilet, wet and dry sauna and changing room.
