Modern single-family house – attractive facade design with gabions

Gabion cladding of the outer wall facing north

Visually appealing, durable and extremely stable – the gabion has many advantages. But until now the stone basket has mainly been used as a replacement for the garden fence. Until now – because recently in Poland there was one modern single family homethe end completed, where the gabion sets a playful accent in the otherwise minimalist structure of the facade.

The Polish architectural office Barycz and Saramowicz was tasked with creating a modern family house to design and finish as quickly as possible. The architects were looking for a simple, fast and stable construction method. At the same time, you did not want to compromise on the style of the building and wanted to create an attractive and inviting facade. The gabion wall seemed the only logical solution. And indeed – who could resist the charm of natural materials?

The L-shaped villa consists of two structures – the simple construction made it possible to build on schedule. The northern outer wall was covered with the gabion / which looks to the street / – and thus the house is effectively protected from the strong wind in winter and shielded from prying eyes in summer. The south facade was clad in wood and abundantly glazed. Floor-to-ceiling high windows allow plenty of sunlight into the house and provide a wide view, sliding glass doors create a seamless connection between the inside and the outside area. Thanks to the use of natural materials, the wood and stone facade blends harmoniously into the wooded landscape.
