Modern residential building in Bangkok – high glass walls let the sun in
YAK01 is a modern residential building from Ayutt and Associates design designed and located on Yen Akat Road in Bangkok, Thailand. The house was specially designed for a small, modern family. It extends over 560 m² of private property and 500 m² of usable space. Even if the usable space was limited, the customer wanted one modern residential building with sun and rain protection and a large green area to relax. After a long planning and many meetings, the architect suggested making half of the house cantilevered over the ground floor. The house is also designed in an L-shape in order to make maximum use of the usable and green space.
Modern house with garage
The bathrooms, service areas and stairwells are being developed as buffer zones to absorb the heat and offer more privacy for the open living area in the north. Most of the glass walls also face north to let in more natural sunlight, as the sunlight from the north is the least intense in Thailand. With this layout, 50 percent of the land is an open space for gardening that is visible from every angle. The pool is positioned parallel to the building to bring cool air into the house.
Modern house with a stylish interior
The ground floor will be designed according to the traditional Thai house design, with a small courtyard that serves as a foyer and provides access to the large living area. The staircase is enclosed in a glass box and floats over this small interior garden. The large living area is directly connected to the terrace and the pool through tall hinged windows. The high glass walls let in light and sun and emphasize the modern, white furniture.
natural light penetrates the house
The upstairs bedroom is completely cantilevered the length of the foyer below. It is designed like a cube, which also provides enough shade like in a traditional Thai house. The asymmetrical metal artwork on the wall creates a modern feel.
