6th 1448 Houghton is a modern dream home in an affluent suburb of Johannesburg. SAOTA – Stefan Antoni Olmesdahl Truen Architects have with Antoni Associates worked together to design this exclusive home. The task for the architects was to create a house for a large family. The house is on a gently sloping slope, surrounded by trees.

The site has been divided into two separate volumes, arranged around a common entrance and driveway, which gives access to both houses. The two houses are arranged in a U-shape around an inner courtyard and have easy access to all living rooms and the swimming pool.

Inside, the rooms revolve around a central spiral staircase. The living rooms, kitchen and courtyard face the north, while the game room, pool and gym are to the west. All of these areas have a connection to the inner courtyard, which in turn leads back to the main house. The bedrooms and the home office are on the upper floor. The passage to the children’s bedroom runs along a perforated wall that separates the building from the driveway.

Antoni Associates were commissioned to create a modern facility that reflects the family’s lifestyle. The furnishings and selected furniture are modern and have strong lines that complement the linear architecture. A number of custom-made furniture pieces were designed by OKHA Interiors. Neutral shades with accent colors have been used over the years. Expressive carpets add drama and texture to the rooms. Works of art by South African artists including Lyndi Sales and Philip Barlow are exhibited throughout the house.
