Summer DIY: paint and embellish the basket bag yourself
One of the most important accessories for the beach and the outdoor pool is the basket bag. Their natural look and their large capacity also make them an ideal companion for every day. Bast baskets are very durable and keep their shape for many years, but they usually have a simple, classic design that can quickly become boring. So how can you spice up a basket bag and design it with color? Here we have put together four of the nicest and easiest instructions!
Spice up the basket bag with lettering
A great way to personalize everyday objects and accessories is through labeling. First, we will show you a guide on how to personalize basket bags by painting lettering with a brush. You do not need to have any knowledge of calligraphy. This is all about drawing and painting!
Required materials:
Basket, acrylic paint, brush, pencil, black marker (or printer and computer), white multi-surface marker, paper, carbon paper, tape measure and pompoms.
Step 1: Use a tape measure to measure the area you want to personalize. It is desirable that this one is not too small so that it will be easier to paint each letter. The bigger the letters, the better. Also consider whether you prefer a horizontal, diagonal or even a curved design. You can even combine it with flourishes or a simple pattern.
step 2: You have two options for creating your design: you can draw it yourself or you can print out a design that you created on the computer. Both options are described below. You can use any font for the design: italic and ligature, capital letters, serif … the possibilities are endless! The only thing to keep in mind is that your letters are wide. That way you can paint them better and they stand out better against the background of the wicker bag. Try different fonts until you get the look you want.
Typographic design: Download a free font you like, e.g. B. Dafont. Simply install it on your computer, open your text or drawing program and enter your saying in the size you want. It will be easier if you use a landscape page. Then print out the design in black and white and you’re done!
Hand lettering: If you prefer to draw or learn hand lettering, all you need is pencil and paper. As soon as you like the composition, color in the letters with a black marker. The drawing should fit into a rectangle with the same dimensions that you took from your basket bag. The most important thing is that the design is optically adapted to the size of the basket bag.
step 3: How can we transfer the finished lettering? Very easily! Place a piece of carbon paper directly on the basket bag and place your design on it. Then go over the outline of each letter and leave the inside blank. If it is more convenient for you, you can cut out the pattern.
step 4: It’s time to paint. Prepare acrylic paint and two brushes, one thicker to cover the entire surface of the letter and a thinner one for holes and small details. You can use either brush to make your job easier. Since it is a surface with a relief and structure, it will be more convenient for you.
step 5: When the paint is completely dry, you can add a little more volume to your design by applying a shadow to the outside of the letters with a fine multi-surface marker. There are many brands out there that can help you. The Posca pens, for example, are available in a wide range of colors and thicknesses.
step 6: Finally, you can give the basket bag your personal touch by adding some pompoms or other pretty decorations. You can make pompoms of different sizes from wool thread that will perfectly match the colors of the letters.
Basket bag in watermelon look
Our favorite summer activities include concerts in the park, open air cinema events, beach days and picnics. A wicker bag is perfect for bringing a beach towel or picnic blanket, snacks, drinks and a warm sweater for cool evenings. Nothing creates a more summer mood than a watermelon look!
Required materials:
Basket bag
Spray paint – pink, green and white (optionally also jade green)
Black acrylic paint and paint brush
Clear coat
instructions:
When painting this basket bag, it’s not about perfect lines, it’s about having fun and the colors blending a little into one another. Like an ombré gradient. For this reason, you shouldn’t use painter’s tape, just hold a piece of cardboard over it so that the paint overflows a little.
Start by spraying about two-thirds of the bag in white. It doesn’t have to be perfect so just give it a try. The easiest way to paint it is to turn the bag upside down and tuck the handles inward. So these are not colored either.
After you’ve applied a few coats of white paint, spray on a few coats of green paint. Let each layer dry completely before applying the next. You can also spray some jade green on the border between the white and green color. Next comes the pink. Also apply two coats of it.
The final step is to use black paint and a brush to paint watermelon seeds. To protect the paint from the elements, spray the bag with clear varnish and everything is ready.
Creative layout with templates
Painting a basket bag with a motif, such as a star or heart, is also not difficult at all. You simply need the appropriate stencil and painter’s tape to attach it to the basket bag. The important thing is to just cover any areas that you don’t want to paint. To prevent the bag from constantly collapsing while painting, you can stuff it with kitchen paper or newspaper.
After that, you can either use a paint brush and acrylic paint or chalk paint spray. With the spray, however, it is much faster. Remove the stencil and let the paint dry well.
You can also experiment with two or more colored designs
Personalized basket bags for a stag party
Do you want to organize a very special bachelorette party on the beach and are you looking for cool accessories for the girls or for the bride-to-be? Personalized, self-painted basket bags and summer hats are perfect for this occasion! The best thing is that you can color-coordinate your designs with the other party elements.
You only need a few materials to paint the basket bags: acrylic paint in a color of your choice, masking tape, letter stencils, a thin brush and a sponge brush.
* If you don’t have stencils, you can use the carbon paper method.
This stripe look is super easy to do. The letters give each basket bag a personal touch. First, put the tape where you want the strips. Make sure that you tape a blank area in the middle for the letters.
Paint your stripes in the color you want! Apply two coats of paint for good coverage. Only when the paint is completely dry do you start stenciling the letters. The easiest way to do this is with a sponge brush. Make sure you fix each stencil with tape so that it doesn’t slip while you paint. After you’ve removed the stencil, you may need to rework with a small brush and fill in the missing spots. This step can be a little tricky because you are painting on a not very flat surface.
Paint summer hat
Personalized straw hats are perfect for a rounded beach or summer look for the JGA! You can either write the girls’ names or something funny like Bride’s Babes.
You need:
- Wide brimmed beach hat
- pencil
- Black paint (acrylic or fabric paint)
- Eye shadow sponge brush
- (optional) bobble strap
How to paint beach hats:
You can draw any name on a hat with a pencil. If you are not sure that your handwriting is beautiful enough, you can also print out the name on paper and transfer it to the hat using carbon paper.
Next, take black acrylic paint and a foam-tipped brush and start blotting the paint along the pencil lines. Make sure that you press down a little so that the color can penetrate the straw fibers. Dab like you’re trying to make a line of dots along the pencil lines. When you’ve colored in all of the pencil lines, let the paint dry. Finally, you can decorate the beach hat with a nice bobble ribbon.
