Ben Young’s glass sculptures depict broken liquids

Inspired by the unique techniques and materials that architects and industrial designers use, the New Zealand artist has Ben Young create amazing glass sculptures depicting the local setting and landscape. In contrast to the organic coastal and sea formations, there are artificially created urban landscapes made of industrial materials such as concrete and steel.

Handcrafted sculptures made of glass

Ben Young grew up in Waihi Beach on the beautiful Bay of Plenty coast in New Zealand’s North Island. He has been making remarkable glass sculptures for more than 10 years. Young currently resides in Sydney, Australia, where he is working on very exciting new projects. The life of the enthusiastic surfer and boat builder by profession was so strongly influenced by the ocean that it is not only always present in his art objects, but also plays a fundamental role. Relief forms such as the Maunganui Mountains and Mayor Island can also be recognized from his works.

Modern works of art inspired by the ocean

Each work of art is hand drawn, hand cut, and then molded from clear sheet glass, typically used for windows. It is put together layer by layer in such a way that certain shapes are created. The final shape creates spectacular effects when the light shines through. Young never likes to do the same thing twice, even if the initial idea has changed dramatically.

The sculptures of the self-taught artist not only reflect his passion for the ocean. The human body and abstract objects can also be seen under the glass art collection. You can watch the artist at work in the video below.
