We all know diamonds are a woman’s best friend. How about, however, if women surprise their husbands by making beer gifts themselves for their significant other? Is your brother-in-law, father, or any other family member a total beer junkie? Does your best friend utter the craft beer list when you are at a bar or restaurant together? Does your boss want to organize a company party in every local brewery? You may think that a hunting dog would be the perfect gift for all of your male relatives or acquaintances. However, we would dare to guess that it is actually the faithful bottle of beer.
For a large part of the population, beer is an indispensable companion at every celebration, every separation or after stressful working days. There are many ways to please a beer drinker with original and extraordinary gifts. For those who are looking for such a surprise for friends of the globally coveted drink, we have collected some ideas with which you can make great beer gifts yourself.
Make imaginative beer gifts yourself
If you make beer gifts yourself, you can, for example, show your partner how much you understand and accept the connection between him and his favorite drink. The fact that it can also be homemade will add another special touch to the occasion. For this reason, we have put together suitable suggestions for various celebrations and birthdays in this post. To show an appreciation for the special people in your life, you can make well-thought-out beer gifts yourself during the holiday season or for other good reasons.
We’ll start with a gift basket full of beer-inspired goodies. First, think about the subject and pick a few things that you know the recipient will like. The key here is choosing delicacies that suit both the person’s taste and the theme. Also add something with a local or artisan flair. Think of your favorite snacks and how they can fit into the beer gift ideas in your basket. With a few handpicked favorites for beer drinkers from your favorite store, your beer gifts will be even more impactful.
Gift basket with beer bottles
Invest a little more time and effort so that you can make great beer gifts yourself. In this way you will also add an extra touch to the gifts with beer. By doing this, you will be able to make your friend or loved one really happy. Use the person to be given as inspiration and help for great recommendations and diverse types of beer, with which you can make the right beer gifts yourself.
However, buying beer as a gift may not be that easy. Get advice in the store if you are not very familiar with the new trends or the types of beer. You also have the option to take a tour of well-known breweries to explore the world of craft beers in more depth. So choose the strains that are versatile enough to impress someone whose taste you don’t necessarily know.
Strong beer or stout is strong, which can be an ideal beer gift for the colder winter months. A bourbon stout, for example, ages in barrels that used to be used to make whiskey. For this reason, a bourbon stout is sweeter than traditional stouts, but don’t let that scare you away.
Beers with a strong hop flavor are always popular, and you can add these bottles to your basket when making beer gifts yourself. You can also find large-format copies with clever sayings and colorful labels. As an alternative, you can also come up with thematic pictures or congratulations yourself and print them out so that you can stick them on the bottles.
Accessories that you can put in the gift basket
Finally, to balance the boldness of tastes, a neutral type of beer is a great option to complete your gift basket. Choose a lighter variant that everyone can enjoy. You now have some great, giftable beers in your basket. Next you can also add the right bar accessories in the form of a beer glass or even a beer mug. Getting hold of some great glassware from the store is the perfect element when making baskets as beer gifts yourself.
Beer and puns can admittedly be a little too cute for a male beer lover. That said, you can also pick up some glasses for the style of the beers you bought. Similar to wine, the taste of beer is experienced through smell. Different shapes of glassware can accentuate the aromas of the beer.
What would a beer present be without the snacks that go with it? You can complete your beer basket with some delicious snacks. Beer, like wine, goes well with food in a natural way. There is nothing like savory snacks when enjoying a cold beer. Sweets, nuts, salami, various types of sausage or other meat products are also good options for snacking in combination with beer.
Prepare beer cake
If you want to make beer gifts look fun, a beer cake is the right choice. You can easily assemble these from different beer bottles in a fun way. You can adjust the number to the age of the birthday child. First buy the beer you want in a well-supplied liquor store. Above all, this should offer a large selection of beers from all over the world so that you can collect enough different bottles. Also, try to get beer bottles or beer cans of even height to shape the layers for the beer cake accordingly.
For example, if you’re celebrating a 30th anniversary and you choose to have three layers of the beer cake, you can hand out the beer bottles. The bottom layer can consist of 16 bottles, the middle layer of 10 cans, and the top layer can contain four more beer bottles. You can use cardboard cake pads or kitchen boards with a diameter of approx. 30 cm as a base for the layers. For the decoration, a few garlands and glitter paper are enough to prepare everything fun and festive.
Shape the beer cake
First, place one of the cake pads on a kitchen counter or other surface and distribute the desired amount of bottles in a circle. Make sure the beer cake has a sturdy base to support the weight.
Repeat this process for the second circle, but placing the cans on it instead of the beer bottles. You can place more canned beers on the middle layer for added stability. The beer cake in our example works best with 33 to 35 bottles of beer.
Next, do the final layer, which you can top off with four smaller bottles of beer. These can also be the somewhat oddly shaped and exotic beers that you can position as a highlight at the top. Then tie the bottles and the beer cans each with a matching ribbon and add other decorative elements as you wish.
In our proposal, the number “30” for the birthday is cut out of glitter cardboard. You can attach this to a wooden skewer with adhesive tape and insert it into the top of the beer cake. To top it off, you can spread confetti around the beer cake. If you have a pet, we would recommend that you keep them far away from them.
Flowers for men with beer
Roses are beautiful, but sometimes there have to be flowers for men in the appropriate shape if you want to give a homemade gift. The gentlemen are of course not as much looking forward to flowers on Valentine’s Day as the ladies. So how is a girl supposed to show her boyfriend that he means a lot to her?
You can find the answer in our last suggestion, which can help you craft a beer bouquet. Grab a few of his favorite drinks and snacks for that. Throw them in a wooden container or bucket and you can use them to create beautiful gifts with beer for Valentine’s Day or Father’s Day. Your husband, fiance, boyfriend or father will surely like these.
Materials you need to make a beer bouquet
- larger container (caddy), basket or bucket
- 6-pack of favorite beer (or other alcoholic beverages)
- 2 or 3 empty boxes
- Floral wire
- A couple of favorite snacks
- Ring binder
If you want to make an oversized beer bouquet, you can use a water cooler instead of a container. That way, you’ll have plenty of room for all of that stuff.
First, put the empty cardboard boxes in the container. The boxes should be small enough to fit inside, but also robust to be able to carry all the goodies. Stack the boxes flat in a tiered fashion, with the highest point being the center back area of the container. For even more stability, you can also use tape to attach the box to the bucket. Fill the beer container to the brim with the ring binder and make sure to completely cover the boxes with it. You can make artificial flowers from the handkerchiefs by shaping and coloring them accordingly. Red and white work well for Valentine’s Day without being too feminine.
Using the floral wire that extends from the bottom of the paper flowers, attach one flower to each bottle neck. To do this, wrap the wire tightly around the bottle cap and neck. Strategically place each beer bottle and snack at different heights to add a certain dimension to your beer bouquet. Optionally, put scratch cards or any other kind of little thing he might like, such as shot glasses or cigars. You can use it to complete the beer bouquet.
