Arsenic in rice? Rice and rice products are often contaminated with inorganic arsenic, which is considered to be carcinogenic. However, you can reduce the value either by washing the rice thoroughly or by allowing it to soak in water overnight and then draining the water. According to recommendations, rice is washed until the wash water is completely clear. The concentration of the harmful trace element is also different for different types of rice. Whole grain rice and long grain rice, for example, have a higher arsenic content than basmati rice.
Method 1: soak the rice
Soaking your rice is the easiest method. However, the rice water is not concentrated and therefore less effective. First wash 100 g rice twice under running water and place in a bowl. Add 200 ml of fresh water. If you plan to make large amounts of rice water, you can also increase the amount of rice used. Just make sure that the optimal ratio of water to rice is around 2 to 1. Let the rice soak for at least 30 minutes.
Method 2: cook the rice
When you cook your rice, it creates a concentrated amount of rice water that is said to have better effects. However, you need to dilute it with clean water before use.
After thoroughly rinsing 100 g of rice, put it in a saucepan with a lid. Add 700 ml of water so that you will have water left over after cooking. Ignore the directions on the rice packaging. Bring the water to a boil, put the lid on, and cook the rice over medium heat for 15 to 20 minutes. Then strain the cooked rice and let the rice water cool down well.
Method 3: ferment rice water
Fermenting the rice water takes the most time, but the results are well worth the effort. However, the fermentation process should produce valuable vitamins, trace elements, enzymes, amino acids and antioxidants. Fermented rice water is considered especially good for hair due to the pH change in the water (the process brings the pH of the rice water closer to the natural pH of the hair and causes the release of an active ingredient called pitera, which helps regenerate Can promote cells).
