With this in mind, FMD Architects from Australia designed the couple’s new home. The building is located in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia and was completed in 2018. The clients wanted to transform their house into a comfortable, functional and stylish refuge from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Furnish the living room comfortably: furniture, home accessories and plants
On the ground floor of the family house is the spacious living area, which houses the kitchen, dining area and living room. High sliding glass doors that extend from floor to ceiling connect indoor and outdoor areas and enable a seamless transition from the kitchen to the adjoining dining area with an outdoor grill. The architects have integrated skylights so that the large living room appears bright and inviting.
Custom-made wooden furniture matching the flooring and window frames form the modern living program. From the numerous built-in cupboards, to the cozy desk in a niche, to the dining area for eight people and the kitchen island with a mirror surface: the furniture is tastefully combined with one another and blends harmoniously into the living space.
The absolute highlight in the living room is an accent wall that was completely clad with wood. It offers numerous design options and can always be staged in new ways. Whether as a modern wall unit or as a hanging surface for paintings and posters: the wooden wall is a real eye-catcher. Together with the sofa in anthracite and the wing chair in neon green, it forms a cozy reading corner that invites you to linger on sunny summer weekends.
Furnish comfortably: kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge area
The kitchen is the heart of every home. Even if the living space is scarce, there is the possibility of creating a comfortable cooking area with built-in cupboards and modern storage space concepts. The wooden fronts make the kitchen look homely and are the perfect choice for everyone for whom the minimalist white kitchen looks too sterile and cool. Incidentally, the architects have deliberately dispensed with wall units. This makes the kitchen look more spacious. So that the kitchen island does not look too massive in the limited space, it was also clad with mirrors. The extractor hood with a mirror surface adds the final touch to the modern, puristic concept.
A casual dining area was designed right next to the fitted kitchen with a cooking island. The cross-legged dining table offers seating for eight people. The smooth and polished wooden plate offers sufficient storage space for small home accessories, flower pots and statues. The braided seats of the chairs create an attractive contrast to the otherwise more modern look of the dining area furniture set. A white chest of drawers with handle-less cabinet doors offers additional storage space for dishes and drinks.
The outdoor dining area promises many casual hours outdoors. The homeowners can end the evening with a barbecue with friends or relax during the day under the cooling shade of the canopy. The protruding construction volume with the sleeping area also shields the terrace from outside views and protects it from the wind. Numerous planters with exotic and native ground cover, perennials and shrubs bring nature into the house and onto the terrace. The tub garden is perfect for the allotment garden.
Furnish comfortably: the bedrooms in a purist living style
While the living room is presented in a modern country house style, the bedrooms are designed in a purist manner. The architects concentrated on the essentials when furnishing. A bed, a functional desk by the window and a small chest of drawers complete the living program. There was no decoration, instead textiles bring variety to the interior. From the blankets made of wool to the throw pillows made of linen fabric, to the curtains and the carpeting: the small bedroom is an oasis of calm and serenity.
The numerous windows allow plenty of sunlight into all rooms and create an exciting play of light and shadow. The sunlight allows the natural beauty of the wooden wall and the solid plank floor to come into its own.
No home is complete without an inviting hallway. If you want to furnish your entrance area comfortably, you should opt for wooden floors and furniture. They create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. At the same time, a cloakroom and a shoe cabinet offer sufficient storage space for shoes and coats. The absolute highlight in the hallway is the long chest of drawers, which offers enough space for home accessories and plants. Large windows also let in plenty of sunlight in the hallway.
