Concrete house with flat roof by K2 – minimalist architecture in Japan
We present you Flat 40 – a minimalist one Concrete house with a balanced relationship between privacy and openness. The building with a concept based on the Bauhaus style was designed by K2.
Concrete house Flat 40 – linear and geometric appearance
The name of the house is inspired by the 40 meter long outer wall Ukikabe (an architectural element that appears to float above the ground). Ukikabe is kept 1.5 meters away from the facade and provides privacy protection from unwanted looks. It is now Concrete house surrounded by seven-storey buildings. The elongated property is located in the Ehime prefecture and is reminiscent of the Shimanami Kaido highway that connects Imabari with 6 islands in the Seto Inland Sea.
Concrete house with a simple and light-flooded interior
The massive and stable concrete construction is designed as a highly insulated flat roof structure and stands for safety and a long service life. The shape of the building results in different qualities of open spaces.
The use of glass ensures optimal harmonization of the living area
The detailing in the interior is based on the simplicity of traditional minimalist architecture. Glass room dividing structures are created in the interior. The living rooms are oriented to the east or west. In the center there is a large room that divides the house into 2 main rooms. High ceilings and warm wooden ceiling paneling contribute to the calm and well-being in this minimalist Concrete house.
Simple appearance
The individual rooms such as bedrooms are oriented to the north. The maximum possible transparency in the northern part of the house supports the modern and open character of the overall architectural concept of K2 and allows the border between inside and outside to merge.
Ukikabe – an architectural element
A mezzanine floor is available in the southern part of the house, below which storage rooms are located. The kitchen and dining room are upstairs. That Concrete house offers a game room, courtyard and outdoor pool.
