It’s a perfect place for a relaxing retreat that this lakeside building offers. That Country house by the lake is designed by Calgary-based Sturgess architectural firm and was built for a couple and their two children, visitors and grandparents. The studio is known for their innovative, sustainable, and practical projects. Its 20 employees are led by the client Jeremy Sturgess, who has won wide recognition and numerous awards for his projects. They won a national competition for the bridge master plan in 1999 and today they are one of Canada’s premier architecture and urban design firms.

The team decided to divide the building into a main residence and a guest area. That Country house by the lake faces north on a steep cliff and faces Howe Sound (network of fjords is immediately northwest of Vancouver). Surrounded by nature with water, it looks as if only the roof marks its presence in the landscape. The house has an interesting construction plan – thanks to the glass facade you can fully enjoy the breathtaking view.

The two parts of the house are connected by a wooden canopy with cedar shingles and a copper-colored roof. From there you can best admire the beautiful view. The entrance leads to a sheltered terrace that invites you to relax.
