Tradesy has put a gold Louis Vuitton toilet on display at its showroom in Los Angeles that’s selling for $100,000.
According to an article on International Business Times, Tradesy has put a gold Louis Vuitton toilet on display at its showroom in Los Angeles. The toilet is selling for $100,000 and was made out of $15,000 worth of bags.
The piece was made by Illma Gore, who released a controversial nude painting of Donald Trump in 2016 called “Make America Great Again”.
Gore released a statement saying, “I personally love the idea of what it felt like to cut up a $2000 bag. And the urge to destroy is just the same as a creative urge. And when Tradesy came to me with this idea of, you know, hey would you want to make art pieces, I mean I couldn’t say no to that.”
The piece is called “Loo-uis Vuitton” and was made out of 24 different bags worth $15,000 including a suitcase that costs $3,000. Gore worked on the piece for 3 months to make this full functional toilet.
Gore posted a photo (below) on Instagram saying, “I wondered what 15k of authentic @louisvuitton bags looked like as a fully functional toilet, so I made this.”
International Business Times also uploaded a video (below) on its YouTube channel of the piece in which Gore says, “I think the whole artwork was a challenge to create, which is funny because it’s just a toilet whether you want to argue or not that it’s art. It wasn’t incredibly difficult.” She continued to say, “It’s only been out for a day, but the most common question is ‘is it functional and how much is it’.”
The toilet has also been listed as the “Loo-uis Vuitton Toilet by Tradesy x Illma Gore” on Tradesy.com for $100,000. It ships within 4 – 8 days and is listed as “final sale”. Delivery is available for buyers in Los Angeles.
