What Should I Do About My Handbag Collection?

I have a few handbags from luxury brands, contemporary brands, and affordable brands. They’re all pretty much different types of bags and they all work well with different outfits. I want more bags, though, but the only problem with that is that I don’t want to have too many of the same bag or too many bags from one brand. So, what should I do about my handbag collection?

I have 6 handbags. A black faux leather satchel from Forever 21, two Longchamp Le Pliages in white and black, a Coach Nolita Wristlet, a faux leather crossbody bag from Zara, and a Louis Vuitton Alma PM. That’s two satchels, two tote bags, one clutch, and one crossbody bag.

That seems like a pretty good collection given the different types. Three of those bags are perfect for fall and winter while two of them are perfect for spring and summer and one can be used all year.

Though that is a good collection, I still want more bags.

Now, I don’t just want more bags to have more bags. I’d like to replace some of the bags in my collection and there are other bags that are classic, iconic bags that I’d like to have. I would like to replace my black satchel with either a Givnchy Antigona, get a brown MCM Munich Boston Bag, get a Chanel Wallet on Chain, get a navy Longchamp Le Pliage, and get an Hermès Lindy.

Then there’s Louis Vuitton. I have an Alma PM so I don’t want any other satchels from the brand, but I want a clutch and some cosmetic pouches. The only thing is that Louis Vuitton has cosmetic pouches in monogram canvas, damier ebene, and damier azur. If I got that clutch, I’d want all of those colors.

If I got all of those bags, I’d have three satchels, six clutches, three tote bags, a crossbody bag, and a shoulder bag. That’s a lot of bags.

I just don’t want to have too many of the same type of bag or too many bags from the same brand, though. I want to have a minimal handbag collection with only about two handbags of each type. Getting all those bags wouldn’t allow me to do that. Also, if I got all those bags, I don’t think I’d get good use out of all of them.

So, it’s either have a minimal, well used collection or get all of these handbags I want and have some that wouldn’t be used that much.

  1. Maybe get a new bag in a color you do not have, like the navy or brown and sell your least used bag to a consignment shop. If you sale a bag that you really do not use and will not miss and use the money to buy a bag in a style and color that you do not own may help to justify the purchase.
