What Luxury Handbags Get Copied the Most?

Last week I talked about inspired handbags copying other famous bags but I wanted to talk more about those bags. I want to know what handbag is the most copied among Luxury handbags. This excludes replicas or anything else that is sold on the black market. I want to know who sells these bags in stores. It seems like everyone is copying the Louis Vuitton Alma or the Givechy Antigona but there is another brand that is getting copied a lot now.

Everyone is putting out new bags with this brand’s patterns on it and it seems like every other brand has a bag that looks like this brand’s bags. The brand everyone is copying is Chanel. The most copied silhouette is that of the Chanel flap bag and Chanel Boy Bag but others seem to just be taking its designs rather than its silhouettes and putting out a bunch of bags with quilted leather on them.

Now, I know you’re probably thinking “Chanel doesn’t own the quilted leather pattern. Any brand can use that”. That is true but it’s obvious when you copy a company that is very well-known for a specific design; especially when you throw another well-known design from that same brand on a bag.

Everyone loves the shoulder strap from the Chanel Wallet on Chain. Regardless of what silhouette your handbag has, if it’s in quilted leather with a chain handle that has leather intertwined into it, you’re copying Chanel. Many would already avoid picking up a bag with quilted leather on it because of how well-known the design is with Chanel but as soon as that chain strap is put on it, it’s obvious.

This also returns us to the same argument we spoke about before. Some people can’t afford luxury handbags and maybe they want to get a bag that looks like the luxury handbag they want and pay much less for it. That’s okay on the buyers part but I just don’t like it when brands blatantly copy others. Brands should be putting in the effort to make original designs that work well for their customer base.

Also, it would be nice to see brands coming up with ways to bring luxury to people for lower prices. Maybe have a bag that has a small luxury accessory on it or a small amount of a luxury material. Brands can also collaborate with other brands to bring luxury to people at lower prices like the Balmain x H&M collection.

Brands just don’t want to do that, though. They just copy other handbags instead and those handbags sell because people see how they can get a luxury silhouette for a cheaper price. The brand that is most guilty of this, as I also said last week, is Michael Kors. I would never wear a Michael Kors bag. The prices that are charged for those bags is ridiculous and Michael Kors is just being lazy. I’m surprised that Anna Wintour likes him at all or that she features his advertisements in Vogue. She of all people should know how much Michael Kors copies other brands.

So, what do you think? Is it okay for inspired handbags to be using more than a silhouette from a brand? Let me know in the comments below and don’t forget to click “Subscribe” on the menu to get new posts sent directly to your inbox and to find me on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.
