Vintage luxury handbags are better than new handbags. The leather may be old and there might be scratches or stains on it, but vintage bags are usually made in more classic shapes, don’t have monograms on them, and are less trendy. They usually have less branding on them except for bags from brands like Louis Vuitton who have been making bags in monogram for a while. They also usually cost less.
Vintage bags are better than new bags because of their style. They are usually made in classic shapes and usually come in black or brown. They aren’t very trendy and they aren’t loud and ostentatious. They also don’t usually have monograms or a lot of branding on them like new bags do. Although, vintage bags from brands like Louis Vuitton do have monograms in them since they as well as other brands have been making bags in monogram for a while.
Even vintage Hermès bags are better than new ones. Hermès has been making bas in the same silhouettes for a while so its vintage bags are pretty much the same as its new bags but I love the look of a vintage bag with scratched and stained leather.
Vintage handbags are also usually cheaper than new bags. A couple of years ago, my husband got me a vintage Louis Vuitton Alma for our anniversary while we were on vacation in Long Beach, CA. Vintage Almas and other bags from Louis Vuitton can cost from $150 on websites like eBay.
Vintage Hermès bags and vintage Chanel’s bags can cost the same or even more than a new bag, though. Bags from these brands as well as other brands hold their value. You can buy a brand new Hermès Birkin and sell it for more online. You can also buy a new Chanel bag and sell it for more as prices of these bags increase.
Also, bags from these brands have waiting lists where it can take up to 2 years before you can get an Hermès Birkin and a year before you can get a Chanel Wallet on Chain. These bags are in demand and the brands make less of them to make them more in demand.
Vintage handbags are also usually top handle bags and satchels. There are a lot of crossbody bags, clutches, and tote bags but there seem to be more top handle bags.
Regardless, vintage bags are better than new bags. They are usually made in classic shapes, don’t have monograms on them, and are less trendy. They also usually cost less.
