Online fashion news publication Fashionista has published a survey which details the average annual salaries of some of the most popular fashion jobs.
Over 3,000 people filled out the survey with detail about their titles, companies, gender, locations, years of experience, and salary earlier this year. This includes jobs in design, styling, retail, PR, development, marketing, photo, editorial, and advertising at companies like Nordstrom, Tiffany & Co., Condé Nast, Marc Jacobs, and Ralph Lauren as well as smaller companies with less than 25 employees.
People with one year of experience in the industry to people with over 20 years of experience filled out the survey. This includes people who make under about $25,000 a year and very few people who make over $500,000 a year.
The survey also showed a few trends in the industry as well. The majority of people who filled out the survey had less than 10 years of experience in the industry and made five figures but their salaries increased with more experienced people. Company size also gave details about salaries where people working at public companies usually made more than those working at private companies.
Certain positions were shown to pay more than others. For example, design, retail, and PR had the largest percentage of salaries over $100,000 a year, while design and styling had the most salaries over $200,000 a year. In editorial an assistant editor with not much experience made an average of $35,800 a year while the average salary of an Editor in Chief was $246,000 a year.
