It’s October and the holiday season begins in about a month. People planning their holiday vacations and many of those people are visiting New York. If you’re not a local you might not know what there is to do in the city for the holidays so I’ve written a guide to some of the best things you can do in New York for Christmas.
See Santa at Macy’s Santaland
Every year Macy’s holds an event to celebrate the holidays with Santaland. In the event you’ll see singing snowmen, holiday decor, reindeer, and Santa. This familiar event is perfect for kids and anyone wanting to see a nice display of holiday decorations. Santaland opens on Friday, November 24th to Christmas Eve.
Go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art
Everyone knows the Metropolitan Museum of Art for the Met Gala it holds in May every year. The Met also puts up quite a bit of decor during the holidays. You can see a tree lighting display every day at 4:30 and at 5:30 and 6:30 on the weekends.
Go Ice Skating
New is pretty cold during the holidays and there are, of course, quite a few ice skating rinks in the city. The Rink at the Rockefeller Center is the most popular of the rinks. The rink opens from October to April and tickets cost from $25 to $33.
Go See the Bergdorf Goodman Holiday Windows
Bergdorf Goodman displays holiday windows every year. Pretty much every store on 5th Ave puts up holiday decor and holiday windows but Bergdorf Goodman’s are the most famous. Bergdorf Goodman holiday windows are a traditional part of the holiday season in New York. The debut events, however, are a thing mostly locals go to. Macy’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, and more all display holiday windows. Windows are debuted in November but you can see them throughout the holiday season.
There are a few other things to do in New York for the holidays but these are the best. New York has quite a few places you could go shopping and there are quite a few local neighborhoods with holiday light displays. Saks Fifth Avenue also has a holiday light show.
