Riccardo Tisci is the New Creative Director of Burberry

Riccardo Tisci is the new creative director of Burberry, replacing Christopher Bailey who announced his resignation last year in October.

According to an article on WWD, Riccardo Tisci is the new creative director of Burberry. Tisci replaces Christopher Bailey who announced his resignation last year in October after having been with the brand for 17 years. Tisci will begin working on March 12th. Bailey will remain at the company until December 31st, 2018 to “provide support” for Tisci.

Burberry CEO Marco Gobbetti released a statement saying,

Riccardo is one of the most talented designers of our time. His designs have an elegance that is contemporary and his skill in blending streetwear with high fashion is highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer. Riccardo’s creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury.

Riccardo Tisci posted a photo (below) on Instagram saying,

I am honoured and delighted to be joining Burberry as its new Chief Creative Officer and reuniting with Marco Gobbetti. I have an enormous respect for Burberry’s British heritage ad global appeal and I am excited about the potential of this exceptional brand. @burberry ARTWORK @katerinajebb #burberry.

Riccardo Tisci resigned as creative director of Givenchy last year in February after 12 years and was replaced by Clare Waight-Keller a month later. When he resigned, rumors began circulating that he would go to Versace. Tisci was said to be in talks with the brand to replace Donatella Versace. The brand, however, said Versace would not be resigning.

Riccardo Tisci may still replace her, though. Versace may resign in a couple of years or so and many people have resigned after just 3 years at a brand. When Versace resigns, Tisci could replace her.

Kim Jones, who was said to be going to Versace last year in September, was also rumored to be going to Burberry when Bailey announced his resignation.
