Calvin Klein pretty much just confirmed that Raf Simons is the brand’s new creative director.
According to an article on WWD, Calvin Klein pretty much confirmed that Raf Simons will replace Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli as creative director of the brand in an interview with Andy Cohen on Wednesday.
When asked about Costa’s and Zucchelli’s resignation Klein spoke a bit about the design staff and the brand finding someone to replace him but then he said, “They won’t announce [who it is] publicly because it’s under contract. But the whole industry knows.”
Klein confirms that the brand has found someone but he also pretty much just confirmed that Simons will be the brand’s new creative director.
When Costa and Zuchelli left Clavin Klein in Arpil, there were rumors that Simons would be replacing them. The brand declined to comment when asked about the rumors but Steve Shiffman, CEO of Calvin Klein, did say that “an announcement will be made” as to who will replace Costa and Zuchelli after announcing both of their resignations.
Simons can’t be hired by any brand yet because he has a non-compete contract with Dior that ends in July. So, if Simons has been hired by Calvin Klein, we should be getting an announcement soon or at least sometime before New York Fashion Week in September.
There were also some rumors that Hedi Slimane might replace Costa and Zuchelli at Calvin Klein when he resigned as creative director of Saint Laurent, but now he probably won’t.
Regardless of who replaces Costa and Zuchelli, Calvin Klein’s next collection should be pretty interesting, as many other brand’s next collections will be given all of fashion’s recent resignations and new hires.
Lanvin replaced Alber Elbaz with Bouchra Jarrar, Saint Laurent replaced Hedi Slimane with Anthony Vaccarello, Jonathan Saunders just got hired at Diane Von Furstenberg, Dior still hasn’t found anyone to replace Raf Simons.
Many brands will be releasing collections with some new aesthetics and designs from all the new people working for them. So, Fashion Week should be interesting this September and will be interesting to see what fashion editors will be saying about them.
