Anna Wintour hates the color black. She makes that clear in 73 Questions with Anna Wintour, a single video in a series of videos on Vogue’s YouTube channel called 73 Questions. About 2 minutes into the video, Anna walks into the dressing room and is met by Karly Kloss who asks her “what would your never ever wear?” to which Anna replies “head-to-toe black.” That statement is also backed up by countless articles that talk about how much she hates the color.
She also seems to dislike the color in general. In The September Issue, a documentary about Vogue’s most important issue of the year, Anna Wintour can be seen talking about how much she dislikes black when she is brought a rack full of clothes. Even when she goes to a fashion show and is interviewed afterwards, she says that she wishes there was more color.
Anna Wintour has made it very clear to everyone that she does not like the color black. There is one issue with that, though. She has worn head-to-toe black before and still wears a lot of black with her outfits. Some of her black outfits may be embellished with some color but it’s still black. Being that Anna Wintour is the Editor in Chief of Vogue, there are many pictures of her wearing these outfits and I’ve got some of my favorites for you here.
These two photos are of Anna at the Matthew Williamson show at London Fashion Week in 2013.
She is wearing a coat from Prada and while there are some white flowers on it and there is a grey dress underneath it, it’s still pretty colorless.
The next photo is of Anna at a party in 1989.
Here we have Anna wearing head-to-toe black. She said she’d never wear it but she is clearly wearing all black in this photo. Maybe she was saying that she would never wear it again? Regardless, she still wears a lot of black these days.
The next photo is of Anna wearing a black coat over a white dress at the Tory Burch Spring/Summer 2014 show during New York Fashion Week.
Again, the outfit isn’t all black but it still lacks some color. The only color here can be seen on those Manalo Blahnik shoes and it’s actually more of a nude look rather than a colorful one.
It’s obvious that Anna Wintour would critique everyone’s clothes given her job, but for someone who hates the color black, she sure does wear a lot of it. Wether it’s an older picture or a new one, she can be seen wearing black frequently.
So, what do you think? Should Anna Wintour stop criticizing people and brands for wearing the color black? Let me know in the comments below. Don’t forget to subscribe to get new posts sent directly to your inbox and follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.
