Diane von Furstenberg has announced that CEO Paolo Riva has resigned.
According to an article on WWD, Diane von Furstenberg has announced that Paolo Riva has resigned as CEO of the brand. The announcement comes just a year and half after he was hired.
Diane von Furstenberg, herself, released a statement saying, “I would like to thank Paolo for his contribution to DVF. Our business strategy and Jonathan Saunders’ vision for the brand remain in place. I am very excited about our future.”
Riva also released a statement saying, “I am proud of the contributions I have made to this iconic brand.”
Saunders was hired as Chief Creative Officer of the brand earlier this year in May. His first collection for the brand was shown during New York Fashion Week in September. It has since received mostly positive reviews.
Riva was previously the Vice President of Tory Burch. When he resigned to join Diane von Furstenberg, Furstenberg said she was looking for “somebody I felt I could give everything that I’ve done, who could be my heir.”
Some brands have been adopting the “see now, buy now” model and others have been showing in season collections. It seems, however, that showing collections in the right kind of shows was difficult for Riva.
Riva said at the Financial Times Business of Luxury Conference earlier this year, “we are asking the fashion show to do everything: to showcase the product, to communicate in an intelligent way to press, to assist our partners to buy the collection, social media buzz, celebrities and influencers… It’s too much for one moment.”
Although Riva has not commented on what he will do next, he is leaving the brand to pursue other opportunities, according to WWD.
Diane von Furstenberg has made no announcement on who will replace Riva.
