Diane Von Furstenberg has announced that Jonathan Saunders is the brand’s new creative director.
According to an article on Fashionista, Diane Von Furstenberg announced Monday that Jonathan Saunders is the brand’s new creative director. Saunders had been rumored to be replacing Raf Simons at Dior after he closed his own label in December last year but now he won’t be.
Diane Von Furstenberg herself also released a statement about the brand’s new hire, saying,
“Jonathan’s extraordinary passion for colors and prints, his effortless designs, and his desire to make women feel beautiful make him the perfect creative force to lead DVF into the future. I could not have found a cooler, more intelligent designer and I cannot wait to watch him shine as our chief creative officer.”
Paolo Riva, CEO of Diane Von Furstenberg, also released a statement saying,
“Jonathan is an incredibly talented designer who is able to express his creative vision with great clarity. He will evolve the identity of DVF and passionately embrace our mission of putting women at the centre of everything we do. I look forward to this partnership with him.”
It will be interesting to see what Diane Von Furstenberg’s next collection will look like as well as many other brands.
As I have said before, fashion week should be interesting this September given fashion’s recent resignations and new hires. Bouchra Jarra just got hired at Lanvin a couple of months ago, Hedi Slimane left Saint Laurent and was replaced by Anthony Vaccarello, Massimiliano Giornetti left Slavatore Ferragamo, Fransisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli left Calvin Klein, and Dior still hasn’t found anyone to replace Raf Simons.
There have also been rumors about people leaving brands and who will replace Simons as well as Costa and Zucchelli. Pheobe Philo was said to be leaving Céline, Raf Simons is said to be replacing Costa and Zucchelli at Calvin Klein, and many people are rumored to be replacing Simons at Dior
Regardless, many brands will be releasing collections from these new hires and some brands will be releasing collections that were designed by their in house ateliers like Dior and Lanvin so fashion week during September should be interesting.
