Ivanka Trump’s Clothing Line Gets Dropped by Retailers

Nordstrom has announced that it will stop selling Ivanka Trump’s clothing and accessories and has removed her products online. A couple of other retailers seem to have dropped Trump’s products as well.

According to an article on The Fashion Law, Nordstrom announced that it will stop selling Ivanka Trump’s clothing and accessories. The department store says, however, Trump’s products were dropped because of performance, not for political reasons.

A spokesperson for the brand released a statement saying,

we’ve said all along we make buying decisions based on performance. We’ve got thousands of brands – more than 2,000 offered on the site alone. Reviewing their merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business. Each year we cut about 10 percent and refresh our assortment with about the same amount. In this case, based on the brand’s performance, we’ve decided not to buy it for this season.

There has recently been an effort on social media to boycott retailers who carry Trump’s products. The spokesperson, however, did not mention whether that had anything to do with Nordstrom not buying her clothes. The spokesperson also did not say whether Nordstrom would continue not buying Trump’s products or if the company just didn’t buy them this season.

Neiman Marcus has also dropped Trump’s jewelry line. A sales associate who works at one of the company’s stores in New Jersey said Trump’s jewelry collection has been dropped both online and in stores.

A representative for Neiman Marcus released a statement saying,

Neiman Marcus has a very small Ivanka Trump precious jewelry business which is comprised 100 percent of consigned merchandise (merchandise owned by the vendor). Based on productivity we continuously assess whether our brands are carried in stores, on our website, or both.

Again, the representative did not entire whether the company not purchasing has Trump’s products was political or not.

Belk, a retailer with over 300 locations, dropped Trump’s products from its website. The brand was said to have previously carried about 30 products from the brand online. It is currently not known whether Trump’s products are still being sold in stores or not.

Trump’s brand has since responded to Nordstrom dropping its products but has not responded to Neiman Marcus or Belk.

A spokesperson for the Ivanka Trump brand released a statement saying, “Nordstrom ordered both apparel and shoes for the spring, and followed through with the orders on the apparel. They canceled the shoe order, kept the apparel order, and moved the apparel from online into stores. It’s there.”

On both Nordstrom’s and Neiman Marcus’ website Ivanka Trump is no longer on the list of designers. 4 pairs of shoes, however, are still available on Nordstrom’s website.
