How To Wear Jewelry Without Looking Tacky

Jewelry can do many things for an outfit. It can complement a formal outfit, elevate a casual one, or totally ruin one. Today we’re going to talk about how to use jewelry to compliment your outfit and not come off as ostentatious or tacky. So let’s get started with how much you should wear in How To Wear Jewelry Without Looking Tacky.

How Much Jewelry Should You Wear?

I think this basic first step is the one people miss the most and is the entire reason for me writing this article. Don’t wear more than three pieces of jewelry at a time, regardless of what kind of outfit you’re wearing. This, of course, excludes wedding rings and small, understated earnings. If you wear more than three accessories at a time, you can come off as pretentious or showy to some. It makes you seem like your flaunting your money.

What Kind of Jewelry Should You Wear?

Unless you’re looking to make a statement, whether that be about your wealth or sense of fashion, go with something minimal. Something noticeable but complimenting to your entire outfit. Something like a thin gold bracelet or a nice, classy watch. If you are choosing a statement piece, be careful not to get something that is fully encrusted with diamonds or something.

Wearing Statement Pieces With Other Jewelry

If you’re wearing a large statement piece anywhere on your body, all other pieces should be minimal. It doesn’t matter if it’s on your wrist, your neck, or your fingers. Statements are the center of attention and shouldn’t be accompanied by other statement pieces or it will overwhelm your outfit.

Let’s put a quick outfit together to see what I’m talking about. Say you’re wearing a t-shirt, and some dark wash jeans. Wearing a thin gold bracelet with that or a classy watch would elevate that outfit and make ready for a date. Wearing something like think chain or a large watch fully encrusted with diamonds makes you look like you bought a watch from a kiosk at the mall or like you’re trying to flashy your money. This applies to both men and women.

Do yourself a favor and just stick to the minimal stuff or learn how to wear statement pieces if you don’t want to look pretentious. You’d be surprised at how quickly a simple bracelet, necklace, or watch can bring an outfit from casual to formal.

So, do you agree? Should people stick to minimal jewelry or should we wear large statement pieces with our outfits? Let me know in the comments below and don’t forget to click “Subscribe” on the menu to get new posts sent directly to your inbox and to find me on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.

  1. I couldn’t agree with you more. Growing up my father made me aware of less is more when it came to men and jewelry. This want to let people know that one has money is a new thing and it is bad taste.
