Clare Waight-Keller hinted at what to expect from her first collection for Givenchy in October.
According to an article on The New York Times, Clare Waight-Keller hinted at what to expect from her first collection for Givenchy in October. She looked at the brand’s archives and talked about the aesthetic of the collection, though, it might not be what everyone expects.
Earlier this year in February Riccardo Tisci resigned as creative director of Givenchy. Quite a few people had been rumored to be replacing him like Virgil Abloh and Hedi Slimane. A month later, Waight-Keller replaced Tisci as creative director of the brand.
Although she had also been rumored to be replacing Tisci at Givenchy, it was still a bit of a surprise. People were surprised at her hiring saying she had never done menswear even though she had done it before for Ralph Lauren. People were mostly surprised, however, because of her work at Chloé. The brand’s aesthetic is quite different from Givenchy’s.
Waight-Keller talked about working at Givenchy saying, “Givenchy gives me the opportunity to focus on something the complete opposite of what I have done before. It’s got a very different undercurrent. It’s really what people don’t know about me.”
She looked at the brand’s archives and used silhouettes from the 50’s and 60’s. There is lace and there are coats but Waight-Keller says the collection is “very graphic, much darker”. She used an animal print and gold lips. She also says to expect to see a lot of “drama through the shoulder” for women flared legs for men as well as daywear and bags.
Handbags are one of the most important things of a luxury brand. The brand’s bags are popular but not as much as other brands, however, Chairman and CEO of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton Bernard Arnault says Waigh-Keller “has a special talent for accessories. The newest style, which will be released in the Givenchy Spring/Summer 2018 collection in October, is called the GV3 in honor of the brand’s address.
The Givenchy Spring/Summer collection will be shown on October 1st at 10AM UTC.
