Last year I started an article series called “Around the Web” in which I’d post the best news stories, videos, and more from around the web in fashion, though, those article were mostly about fashion news. Today, I’ll still include news, but I’m going to mostly list some of the best editorials, business articles, and fashion articles.

What’s in a Logo: Why Brands Re-Brand

In this article, The Fashion Law looks at why brands release new logos in order to re-brand the company. According to The Fashion Law, brands “do it to evolve with the market and stay relevant (this includes but is certainly not limited to practical concerns, such as the need for a logo to register well in any browsing device, particularly given the vast shift to mobile), to reflect an expansion in product or service categories, to limit negative associations with prior logos, and to reflect a merging of companies – just to name a few common reasons.”

Raf Simons Is Officially in at Calvin Klein

Calvin Klein announced that Raf Simons is the brand’s new Chief Creative Officer, replacing Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli. This, just a couple of months after Calvin Klein himself basically confirmed that Simons would be hired. Simons will work on both the brand’s menswear and womenswear where Costa worked on womenswear and Zucchelli worked in men’s. Simons first collection will be released during the Fall 2017 season of New York Fashion Week.

Dolce & Gabbana Plans Job Cuts, Sources Say

Dolce & Gabbana are reportedly planning to cut about 1,000 jobs in an effort to lower costs. Most of the job cuts will be in the brand’s factories in Legnano and Incisa but there will be some job cuts in Dolce & Gabbana’s main office in Milan as well. The brand should be having union talks about the job cuts in September. Dolce & Gabbana currently employs about 4,500 people.
