Calvin Klein has announced that both Franscisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli are leaving the brand. Now, there are rumors that Raf Simons or Hedi Slimane will replace them.
According to an article on WWD, Francisco Costa will be resigning as the creative director of Calvin Klein’s womenswear and Italo Zucchelli will resign as the creative director of the brand’s menswear with the latest collections for Fall/Winter 16/17 being their last collections for the brand.
Steve Shiffman, CEO of Calvin Klein, released a statement in which he says,
“I would like to thank Francisco and Italo for their unwavering commitment to the Calvin Klein brand and their accomplishments over the past decade. They have both contributed immensely to making Calvin Klein a global leader in the fashion industry, and they have done so with dedication, focus and creativity.”
As for who will replace them, there have been rumors circulating that Raf Simons will replace Costa and Zucchelli but the brand declined to comment. Shiffman did say that “an announcement will be made” after announcing the resignation Costa and Zucchelli.
As I have said before, their next collections as well as those of Lavnin, Dior, Saint Laurent, and some other brands should be interesting during fashion week this September, regardless of who replaces Costa and Zucchelli. Their last collection, however, might not have been as Vogue’s Anna Wintour didn’t seem to like many of the shows during New York Fashion Week in February.
In a review of the top shows from New York Fashion Week, Wintour says that she think people have been let down by the collections because of the news that the CFDA was considering the “see now, buy now” business and show model as well as in season shows for New York Fashion Week.
Calvin Klein just shouldn’t do what Dior did and wait to replace Costa and Zucchelli and have their in house atelier design their next collections. Lanvin has replaced Alber Elbaz with Bouchra Jarrar, Hedi Slimane was replaced by Anthony Vaccarello at Saint Laurent, but Dior still hasn’t found anyone to replace Raf Simons. Regardless, Calvin Klein’s next collections should be interesting.
So, what do you think? Will Raf Simons replace Fransico Costa and Italo Zucchelli at Calvin Klein? Let me know in the comments below. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to get new posts sent directly to your inbox and follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.
