British Vogue has announced that Edward Enninful is the magazine’s new Editor in Chief, replacing Alexandra Shulman.
According to an article on Vogue UK, British Vogue has announced that Edward Enninful is the magazine’s new Editor in Chief. Enninful replaces Alexandra Shulman, who announced her resignation in January after 25 years with the company.
Enninful is also not only the first male editor in the publications history, but the first non-white editor of a woman’s fashion magazine.
Condé Nast Chairman and CEO Jonathan Newhouse released a statement calling Enninful “an influential figure in the communities of fashion, Hollywood and music which shape the cultural zeitgeist.” He continued to say, “by virtue of his talent and experience, Edward is supremely prepared to assume the responsibility of British Vogue.”
Shulman also released a statement saying,
“Edward is an exceptionally talented stylist who will no doubt bring an exciting new creative aesthetic to the magazine. Every Vogue editor arrives with their own range of talents and experience and Edward is very known, respected and liked within the fashion industry. I look forward to finding out his plans as soon as possible and working with him over the next few months of transition so that British Vogue continues to be the leading magazine in this market.”
Enninful started as fashion director of i-D at 19 where he worked for almost 20 years. He has also worked with both Vogue and Vogue Italy, including some of Vogue Italy’s most iconic issues such as The Black Issue and The Curvy Issue. He has since worked as fashion and creative director of W Magazine for 6 years.
Enninful has also worked with quite a few important people in fashion including Anna Wintour, Grace Coddington, Pat McGrath, Steven Klein, Franca Sozzani, Steven Meisel, Terry Jones, Craig McDean, Mert and Marcus, and more. He was also involved in launching the career of Karlie Kloss.
Shulman will be resigning in June and Enninful will begin working on August 1st.
No announcements have been made as to who will replace Enninful at W Magazine.
