Do You Match Your Leather Belt with Your Casual Shoes?

I’m still updating my wardrobe and, as I have said before, I’ve read many guides to dressing well in doing so. Many guides say that the color of your leather belt should always match the color of your leather shoes. I won’t be wearing leather shoes that much, though. I’ll mostly be wearing some slip ons this summer and these guides don’t talk about casual shoes like canvas slip ons. So, that’s why I’m asking you guys if you match your leather belt with your casual shoes.

For example, if I am wearing a white polo, navy shorts, and my black Lacoste slip ons, should I wear a black belt? I usually wear a brown belt with that. Also, if I’m wearing some white pants, a navy button up shirt, and some black canvas slip ons, should I wear a black belt with that, too?

Well, you actually don’t have to match the color of your belt and your shoes when you are dressing casually.

If your shoes are made of leather, whether they are casual leather shoes like bluchers, moccasins, or loafers, you should match the color of your belt with them. If your shoes are not leather, like some canvas slip ons from Lacoste, you don’t have to match your belt with them. The color of your belt and shoes should still, however, go well with your outfit.

If I am wearing one of the outfits I just talked about, I don’t have to wear a black belt just because my shoes are black. White, navy, black, and brown all go well with each other and, as I said in my guide on how to look sharp while dressing casually, those are the kind of colors you should be wearing anyway

So, you don’t have to match the color of your belt with your shoes when you are dressing casually. If you’re wearing casual leather shoes, you should match the color of your belt with them but if they are not leather, you don’t have to match your belt with them.

Regardless, many guides to dressing well that talk about matching your belt with your shoes don’t talk about casual shoes like canvas slip ons so I still wanted to ask you guys if you match your leather belt with your casual shoes.
