Colette has announced that it will be closing in December after 20 years as and that the location will become a Saint Laurent store.
According to an article on Reuters, Colette has announced that it will be closing this year on Wednesday, December 20th. The store’s location will also become a Saint Laurent store.
Along with announcing the store closing, the brand announced it was in talks with Saint Laurent. The Rue Saint Honoré location will become a Saint Laurent store and Saint Laurent might hire the brand’s employees.
The brand also said it will continue to release new products until the store closes, including a collaboration with H&M which will be available exclusively in stores and online on August 21st before H&M releases it in September.
The brand released a statement saying,
“BREAKING NEWS As all good things must come to an end, after twenty wonderful years, colette should be closing its doors on December 20th of this year. Colette Roussaux has reached the time when she would like to take her time; and colette cannot exist without Colette. Negotiations are under way with Saint Laurent and we would be proud to have a Brand with such a history, with whom we have frequently collaborated, taking over our address. We are happy of the serious interest expressed by Saint Laurent in this project, and it could also represent a very good opportunity for our employees. Until our last day, nothing will change. colette will continue to renew itself each week with exclusive collaborations and offerings, also available on our website colette.fr We thank you for your support and see you soon at colette–until December 20th!”
The store was opened 20 years ago and has become quite a popular place to shop, often visited by both industry insiders and professionals.
Karl Lagerfeld even talked about how much he liked the brand saying it’s the only store he goes to, according to an article on Business of Fashion.
As for if the store will open again, we’ll just have to wait and see. Sales at department stores have declined as customers are shopping more online than in stores. The brand might just relaunch as an online retailer like Net-A-Porter or 24 Sèvres.
So, what do you think? Will Colette relaunch as an online brand? Let me know in the comments below. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to get new posts sent directly to your inbox and follow me on Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.
