Céline is Bringing Back the Baggy Clutch Trend for Spring/Summer 2018

Céline is bringing back the baggy clutch trend for its Spring/Summer 2018 collection.

Céline is bringing back the baggy clutch trend that debuted about 10 years ago for its Spring/Summer 2018 collection. The Purse Clutch isn’t a roll clutch or fold over clutch like the baggy clutches before. It’s a clutch with a clasp closure but with a lot of soft leather that’s almost pleated.

About 10 years ago there was a trend where everyone carried around loose, baggy clutches that either rolled up or folded over. The Picnic Bag was the first roll clutch and became quite a popular trend with many brands releasing their own as well as fold over clutches to get the same look.

The trend was around for a couple of years but it’s kind of out. People still carry loose, baggy clutches and some mall brands still make them but baggy shoulder bags have been a more popular trend recently. Also, there have been other trends that people have been following as well like bucket bags.

Céline, however, has brought the trend back for Phoebe Philo’s last collection, who resigned as creative director of the brand last year in December and was replaced by Hedi Slimane.

As I said, the bag isn’t a roll clutch or a fold over clutch. It has a clasp closure but with a lot of soft leather that’s almost pleated. The soft leather almost wraps over the clasp closure but it’s sewn into the back of it. Regardless, the bag still has the same look as a roll clutch or fold over clutch.

The Purse Clutch is available now online and in stores and retails from $3,100 to $22,300, which is more than the starting price of an Hermès Birkin. It comes in black, Camel (brown), Light Camel (light brown), dark brown, red, and white and is available in calfskin, crocodile, and ostrich. It also comes with handles as a handbag as well as a handbag with a leather detail on the front.
