Catching Up With Raf Simons and Dior

It’s been about 3 months or so since Raf Simons resigned as Creative Director of Dior. Since then, there have been many rumors of who will replace him and what he himself will do next. As I did with Alber Elbaz and Lanvin, I’m going to give you all a quick update on what’s going on with Raf Simons and Dior.

There are still many rumors circulating about who will replace Raf Simons at Dior as the brand is taking it’s time in deciding who to hire. Olivier Rousteing, Phoebe Philo, Riccardo Tisci, and Joseph Altuzarra have all been rumored to replace Simons at Dior, according to an article from The New York Times. Though, the person whose name was mentioned the most as who would replace Simons was Alber Elbaz.

Elbaz was fired at Lanvin for allegedly “trying to sell his shares to another company in the Lanvin group” just after Raf Simons resigned. Citing rumors of Dior’s interest in Elbaz when John Galliano was fired from the brand, The New York Times thinks now that Elbaz is currently unemployed he would be an excellent choice.

Now, though, there are rumors that Sarah Burton will replace Raf Simons. According to an article on Fashion Week Daily, Burton is “in talks with Dior” but as usual, representatives of the company declined to comment. Regardless, we should know a little more around Paris Fashion Week when brands show their Fall/Winter 16/17 collections which will include the second collection designed by Dior’s in-house Atelier. Though, what’s next for Raf Simons?

According to an article on The Fashion Law, Simons may be headed to Calvin Klein as he “has a tentative appointment” with the brand. Though, an article on WWD says he won’t be replacing Francisco Costa, current creative director at Calvin Klein, anytime soon since Simons is reportedly in a non-compete agreement with Dior. That means that if he finds work it must not be in any kind of competition with the brand. Since Simons left Dior early, it will be a while before he can work for another brand.

Just like with Alber Elbaz, though, we’ll just have to wait and see who replaces Simons and what he himself will do next. As I said before, we likely won’t know much until after Paris Fashion Week.
