Hugo Boss has announced that it’s Boss womenswear line will not show at New York Fashion Week for its next collection. The announcement comes as part of the brand’s plans to reorganize and increase profits.
According to an article on Vogue UK, Hugo Boss has announced that it’s Boss womenswear line will not show at New York Fashion Week for its next season in February.
Cutting womenswear from New York Fashion Week is part of the brand’s plans “to orient its creation, marketing and communication activities more pointedly towards menswear.” The brand will also be cutting a couple of other lines and reorganizing prices.
There have also been rumors that Jason Wu, creative director of womenswear, would resign. The brand has, however, said that regardless of the fact that womenswear collections won’t be shown at New York Fashion Week, it will continue working with Wu.
Chief Brand Officer Ingo Wilts released a statement saying,
“Our womenswear is, and will remain, a key component of our medium-term growth strategy, and the creative input offered by Jason Wu remains extremely important to us. We value his work very highly. However, it is essential that we achieve a better balance between our menswear, which has traditionally been so pivotal for us, and our womenswear.”
The rumors of Wu’s resignation began circulating in October after the brand announced that it didn’t want to be in the luxury market anymore but to sell premium menswear instead. The brand didn’t not mention any specific plans then but has provided details with this announcement.
The brand will be cutting both the Boss Orange and Boss Green lines and work on only its main lines. Boss, the first of the main lines, will offer premium business wear. The brand’s second line Hugo will be priced about 30% cheaper and will offer more casual clothing for younger shoppers.
Wilts also said the brand will still show menswear collections next season. It is currently not known if womenswear collections will continue to be shown at New York Fashion Week after February.
