Apple held its annual iPhone event last week and released a new Apple Watch but the company also discontinued some Apple Watch bands instead of releasing new ones.
When Apple releases a new Apple Watch, the company usually releases new bands. At WWDC, the bands get new colors and at Apple’s iPhone event the company releases new bands. At least it has for a couple of years.
For this year’s WWDC, Apple only updated the colors of some bands and there weren’t that much. The company usually releases a lot of new colors but this year there were only 3 new colors for the Sport bands. The leather bands, the Nylon bands, the Sport Loop, Nike Sport bands, Modern Buckle, Leather Loop, Milanese Loop, Link bracelet, and Apple Watch Hermès bands didn’t get new colors. The Milanese Loop and Link bracelet, however, usually don’t get new colors anyway.
For the iPhone event last week Apple released new colors for the Sport bands, Sport Loop, Modern Buckle, Leather Loop, Milanese Loop, and Apple Watch Hermès bands. Apple usually releases new bands at its annual iPhone event but it didn’t this year. Instead, the company discontinued some bands.
Apple discontinued the Nylon band, the Classic Buckle, and the Link bracelet. The Modern Buckle was discontinued for WWDC but Apple released it again for the iPhone event last week.
The bands may have been discontinued because they aren’t popular. When I see people wearing an Apple Watch, they’re always wearing a Sport band. You can also get leather bands similar to Apple’s for less on websites like eBay.
They’re also expensive. The leather bands retail for $149 where the Sport band, Nike Sport band, and Sport Loop retail for $49. The Apple Watch Hermès bands retail from $349 to $539. Most people just get the $49 Sport band.
Regardless, Apple discontinued some bands for the iPhone event last week. The company usually releases new bands at its annual iPhone event but it didn’t this year. The company may release new a new band next year, though.
As for if Apple will release a new band at next year, we’ll just have to wait and see.
