Anthony Vaccarello has announced Tuesday that he is putting his eponymous label on hold to focus on Saint Laurent.
According to an article on Fashionista, Anthony Vaccarello has announced that he will be putting his eponymous label on hold to focus on working as the creative director of Saint Laurent. His label, which launched about 8 years ago, will not show this September during Paris Fashion Week.
Vaccarello released a statement addressing the announcement saying, “this adventure has been amazing but I now feel the need to fully focus on this new project.”
Vacarello’s last collection for his brand is currently available at select retailers.
Though Vaccarello will put his label on hold, it is currently not known whether or not he will close it.
Vaccarello had been hired as the creative director of Saint Laurent earlier this year, just a week after Hedi Slimane left the brand. Shortly after, rumors began to circulate that Vaccarello would close his label after a source with knowledge of the deal said he would.
Vaccarello’s hire at Saint Laurent also meant he was resigning as the creative director of Versus Versace.
Vaccarello is also part of a group of designers who have recently closed their own labels for new jobs at big brands.
Jarrar closed her label once she became the creative director of Lanvin earlier this year. Last year, Sébastien Meyer and Arnaud Vaillant put their label on hold to focus on Courrèges. Around that same time Kris Van Assche closed his brand to work as the creative director of Dior Homme.
Jonathan Saunders also closed his womenswear label at the end of 2015. Rumors began to circulate that Saunders would be going to Dior. He was instead hired at Diane Von Furstenberg a couple of months ago.
