According to an article on Fashionista, American Apparel is now available in over 200 countries online. The brand has become available in other countries after having relaunched in the U.S. last year in August.
Last year in January, American Apparel closed all of its 110 U.S. stores and cut 2,400 jobs after having been purchased by Canadian company Gildan Activewear a couple of days earlier. The brand filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy 3 years ago and filed for bankruptcy again in 2016.
Last year in August, the brand relaunched in the U.S. online. The brand is now, however, available online through its new website global.americanapprel.com in over 200 countries.
Director of Marketing Sabina Weber released a statement saying, “we have deep love for our global customers, who really love and get the brand’s sense of humor and irreverent nature. They also know the quality and the timeless, effortless styles that we offer and they miss having those pieces in their closets.”
The aesthetic of the clothing is pretty much the same as before the brand was purchased by Gildan but the brand is now working more on body positivity, inclusiveness, and diversity.
Customers in other countries will also see the brand’s ad campaigns both online and on billboards. All of the models were cast on Instagram and are over 21 years old.
The brand is also working on ethical production. While not everything is made in Los Angeles or the U.S. anymore it is said to be “ethically made”.
The brand has not yet announced whether it will be opening any stores or not.
