Amy Schumer recently made fashion news when she spoke about her opinions on the Met Gala, fashion biggest social event. Her opinions weren’t very fond, however, she isn’t the only celebrity to have said negative things about the event. There have been a few more and today I’ve listed some of the most notable.
All the celebrity disrespect started about three years ago when Gwyneth Paltrow told USA Today, “I’m never going again. It was so un-fun. It was boiling. It was too crowded. I did not enjoy it at all.” Paltrow later pointed out in an interview with two Australian DJ’s that the event “sucked” how he event was “all drama”.
Tim Gunn, host of “Project Runway”, didn’t exactly disrespect the Met Gala. He’s just never going to be invited to the event. Gunn explained why on E!’s “Fashion Police” in May saying, I was asked what is the most unforgettable thing I’ve ever seen in fashion and I said, ‘It’s easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards—two big hulking men—from a fashion show.'” After saying that Gunn and Wintour have apparently had a war ever since.
Tina Fey let everyone know how much she didn’t like the Met Gala last year during an interview on the Late Show with David Letterman. Fey said, “It is such a jerk parade. If you had a million arms and all the people you would punch in the whole world, they’re all there.”
Demi Lavato posted a picture on Instagram of her awkwardly standing next to Jeremy Scott and Nicki Minaj, who was giving her a bad look, at the Met Gala this year. The photo was accompanied by a caption that read, “This picture pretty much summed up my first and probably last met.” She later added, “p.s. some of y’all need to learn how to take a joke.. I’m obviously laughing at the fact that 1. I look incredibly awkward and 2. That the shade being thrown in this picture actually gives me life.”
Amy Schumer seems to not have enjoyed being at the most. In an interview with Howard Stern, Schumer said, “I guess I should be grateful I was invited or something, but yeah, it felt like a punishment. It’s not me and I don’t like it. We’re dressed up like a bunch of fuckin’ assholes.” She continued to say, “I left not the second I could; I left earlier than I should’ve been allowed.” She did note that there was one good thing about the event saying, “I got to meet Beyoncé and she was like, ‘Is this your first Met?’ and I was like, ‘It’s my last’.”
In an interview with Amy Schumer in Lena Dunham’s and Lenny Letter, the women talk about what it was like “sitting across from each other at the Met Ball.” While Schumer only said a few things about why she didn’t like the Met Gala, Dunham was a bit more specific saying,
“I was sitting next to Odell Beckham Jr., and it was so amazing because it was like he look at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards. He was like, ‘that’s a marshmallow. That’s a child. That’s a dog.’ It wasn’t mean – he just seemed confused.”
Dunham continued saying,
“The vibe was very much like, ‘do I want to fuck it? Is it wearing a … yep, it’s wearing a tuxedo. I’m going back to my cell phone.’ It was like we were forced to be together, and he literally was scrolling Instagram rather than have to look at a woman in a bow tie. I was like, ‘this should be called the Metropolitan Museum of Getting Rejected by Athletes.’”
Those are the 6 celebrities who don’t like the Met Gala. I’m sure there are more, but these are the most notable. The Met Gala is often described as the biggest social event in fashion and most people say it’s fun, but not these people.
